Robert Gates
Composer Robert Gates studied composing receiving a master’s degree at Juilliard with Oscar and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Corigliano, specializing in bold, large-palette orchestral music. Winner of the national young composer awards from BMI and ASCAP, he also received awards and honors from Juilliard and The American Composers Orchestra.
Recent concert music commissions include several dance pieces in NYC, and piano music for the 25th anniversary of Piano Spheres, the piano music series featuring Mark Robson and Gloria Cheng. He has also arranged a series of Peruvian pieces for orchestra for conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya .
Other recent work includes scoring two feature films, including the upcoming “The Platinum Loop”, and various arranging work on large features and concerts.
Gates was raised in Pasadena, California near the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where his parents met and his father worked as a rocket scientist and early director of the Voyager program. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
